COMPETITIVE MODE GUIDE
Hangar Showdown: Build a Squad That Adapts
Plan a balanced five-mech roster, manage matchups, and avoid spending your strongest options before you need them.
1. Build five complementary roles
A balanced hangar should be able to engage at different ranges and recover when a preferred plan is countered. Avoid choosing five mechs that all need the same narrow corridor or close-range engagement.
| Role | Why it matters | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Entry / pressure | Starts fights and forces movement | Needs a safe approach route |
| Area denial | Controls a lane or objective | Watch for flanking paths |
| Long-range control | Punishes exposed opponents | Requires clear sightlines |
| Disruption | Interrupts enemy timing | Coordinate ability use |
| Flexible reserve | Responds to unknown matchups | Keep multiple ranges viable |
2. Choose rounds based on information
- Opening: Favor a reliable, adaptable option while learning how opponents move.
- After a loss: Identify whether you lost to range, positioning, or ability timing before changing your approach.
- When ahead: Avoid unnecessary risk; preserve cover and force enemies to expose themselves.
- Deciding round: Use the strongest remaining answer to the opponent's demonstrated playstyle.
3. Coordinate with your partner
Agree on a focus target and a fallback location. Two players attacking different targets often lose trades they could win together. Keep overlapping lines of support without standing close enough to be punished by the same area attack.
4. Common mistakes
- Bringing only short-range weapons into a map with exposed approaches.
- Using disruption abilities before your teammate is in position to capitalize.
- Repeating a failed rush without changing the route or timing.
- Treating the hangar score as a guaranteed match outcome.
Quick pre-match checklist
Check weapon energy compatibility, map sightlines, cooldown coordination, and whether your five choices can cover both close and long engagements.
